Welcome to my website NZ Naihi.
My name is Richard Nicholson & I am proud to be a New Zealand Knifemaker.
Whilst we are a country short on population the blades created here in New Zealand are truly world class.  I put 100% into every blade I touch I take pride in my work! This is my full time business so rest assured you are getting quality. I create knives for many uses, kitchen knives & cleavers, hunting & fishing knives. Most of my knives are versatile enough to be used in many environments.

BLADES:
I create each blade individually, no two blades are ever the same. I use various techniques from traditionally hand forging through to a Stock removal method. I tend to use only high carbon steel’s – 440c or D2 are firm favourites. These steels holds a tremendous edge and can easily be sharpened in the bush with a few passes on an oil stone.

HANDLE MATERIALS:
I tend to use New Zealand wooden handles however I am happy to fit my knives with synthetics such as Micarta, Dymondwood or G10 upon request. I source all my timber from a small local sawmill who supplies me with New Zealand natives – Black Maire, Swamp Kauri, Red Kauri, River Totara, Matai, Rewarewa, Pohutukawa, Rata. They will often also supply me with timber such as Osage orange, Walnut, London Plane, American Oak, and Rosewood. If something special is required I can work with you to source what you are looking for.

SHEATHS:
Whilst I do hold a small range of leather sheaths we are not leather workers & rely on great local craftsman to supply custom sheaths to fit our blades. We are happy to source & supply a custom leather sheath to fit your blade or can recommend a company to produce one for you. As each of our blades are produced with slightly different dimensions having a leather sheath made to fit your blade is the best way to protect your investment.
